Shore Health System’s Prenatal Education Classes

Classes are offered at The Memorial Hospital at Easton. All participants must register due to limited class size. If a class does not have enough attendees, it will be canceled.

Labor & Delivery I, II, and III

The first class provides information about labor and delivery, beginning with an overview of basic maternal reproductive anatomy, and ending with mom’s recovery after delivery. Also covered are:
  • techniques for coping and relaxation during labor and delivery
  • role of the support person
  • signs and symptoms of labor
  • fetal monitoring
  • stages of labor
  • when to go to the hospital
  • pushing techniques
  • vaginal delivery
  • long labor
  • back labor
  • artificial rupture of membranes
  • labor induction
  • use of forceps
  • vacuum extraction
  • cesarean delivery
  • pain management

New Mom...New Baby and Infant Safety

Mom will learn about:
  • post partum care
  • pain management
  • resuming work
  • exercise
  • nutrition
  • birth control
  • emotions and handling new stresses.
Baby topics include:
  • feeding
  • circumcision
  • cord care
  • how to take temperatures
  • characteristics of the newborn
Infant safety topics include:
  • child proofing your home
  • car seat safety
  • safe toys and baby equipment
  • immunizations
  • when to call the baby’s doctor
  • infant security
  • day care providers
  • poisoning prevention

Infant CPR

This is a basic infant CPR class and is not a certification course.

Breastfeeding

Even if you have not decided on how to feed your baby, this class is still right for you. Developed by on-staff lactation consultants, this class provides information about the benefits of breastfeeding. The class will dispel common myths and teach the beginning steps needed for successful breastfeeding.

Big Brother & Big Sister

Designed for children ages 3-8 years who need to learn the importance of being a big brother or sister, this class anticipates the arrival of the new baby. Activities include a story time or video and a tour of the Birthing Center. Children should bring their favorite doll or stuffed toy.

Multiples Class

Taught by parents of multiples, this class is for those who are having more than one baby. (scheduled on an "as needed" basis)
